The holiday season is upon us. This is the time when family and friends come to visit and to be entertained. Here are some of the local attractions that will give then a taste of what Sacramento has to offer.
Last weekend my sister, Pat and I took a road trip to the East Bay—to Berkeley, California. Our destination was Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles, one of the best-kept secrets around. - See more at: http://www.sewtravelinspired.com/#sthash.H30Zz4jN.dpuf
A very good friend of mine moved about an hour’s drive north to another small, Northern California town, Oroville. She was worried about being lonely but I promised to visit. I assured her we would have great fun getting to know her new area together. Oroville, although small, has lots of interesting things to do. Our first outing was to the Chinese temple. Who knew such a little gem existed!
I love Fall! I love the fall holidays. I love the crisp fall mornings, the crunchy leaves, and the piles of fat pumpkins. It is by far my favorite season so I always have a huge list of things we need to do to mark this wonderful season.
September 3 is a Free Fishing Day in California. The CA Department of Fish and Wildlife offers two Free Fishing Days a year. On these days, you can fish without a sport fishing license. Free Fishing Days provide a great, low-cost way to give fishing a try. It is the perfect day to take the family fishing. - See more at: http://www.sewtravelinspired.com/?offset=1472919300467#sthash.wZEwZWgT.dpuf
I love our nation’s national parks. I am constantly amazed that many parents decide to skip the national parks as a family travel destination in favor of something more “kid-friendly.” They assume their children won’t really be able to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of these natural wonders. I’ve found the opposite to be true.
In June I went to Las Vegas with my sister, Elizabeth, for a week. I took my 15 year old granddaughter, Elyza, with me. I’m not much into gambling but there is so much else to do in Vegas besides gambling. There are great restaurants and great museums and other attractions. One of the best things we did was go on a tour of the neon boneyard at the Neon Museum. Now if you’re looking for a Las Vegas museum that would appeal to tweens, teens , and adults, this is the museum for you. - See more at: http://www.sewtravelinspired.com/#sthash.lSqk4hFq.dpuf
One drawback to living in a small town is that there are not a lot of places to take my grandchildren for a Grandma’s Date. That means I’m always on the lookout for fun activities to do with my grandkids (especially things that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg or take an hour or more to drive to one-way.)
We are well into summer and I haven’t been able to plan a decent get-away with the grandkids . It doesn’t seem like we have much time before school starts again August 6th.

You know the old saying about “best laid plans.” When I flew to East Coast earlier this month for a family wedding I built in time to visit the Nation’s Oldest City—St Augustine. But as I said sometimes vacation plans don’t turn out as we expected.
