Scrap Buster - Fleece Headband/Ear Warmer

I love to ask the people in line with me at the fabric store what they are making.  Most people are so happy to tell you,  Before Christmas I was waiting in line at the cut counter with a women who had a basket full of fleece fabric.  I asked her with she was going to make with it.  She told me that she was going to make headbands/ear warmers like she had was wearing.  She proceeded to take the thing off her head and showed me what a simple little item it was.  They made up quickly and everyone she gave one to just loved it.  It also is a great scrap buster.

Like everyone my granddaughter is into selfies

Here’s what you need:

A piece of fleece 10 inches X 22 inches

Scissors, thread, and pins

Here’s what you need to do:

Step one  Make sure your scrap measures 10 inches X 22 inches.  Pin the fabric wrong sides together.  You will use a 3/8 inch seam to connect the two shorter ends.  Sometimes with fleece it is difficult to tell which id the right side or wrong side of the fabric.  An easy way is to slightly stretch the fabric.  Fleece rolls to the wrong side.

Step two  Fold over about ¼ inch of the long edges of the band.  You will only need to fold over once as the raw edges of fleece do not fray.  Use a wide zig zag stitch on the hem.  Once you have completed both of the long edges your band is ready to wear.

How great is that?  It took me longer to write up this tutorial that it takes to sew one of these.

The great thing about these headband is they are multi-functional.   Put them on your head - scrunch them up a bit, and you have a great head band that will keep your ears warm.  Pull it down around your neck and you have a great cowl scarf to keep your neck warm.  And best of all you’ve found a great use for your fleece scraps.

You can make up these and pair them with the no-sew fleece scarf.  It makes a great gift for pennies.
