12 Ways to Save Money at Jo-Ann’s Fabric and Crafts

Happy National Sewing Month!  Sewing can be an expensive hobby but there are ways to save.  My local store is Jo-Ann’s Fabric and Crafts.  I have shopped there for years.  The clerks comment on my absence when I go too long between visits.

Jo-Ann’s Fabric and Crafts is the big he-hog in the marketplace for sewing and crafting.  I daresay every sewist in the US knows the name even if they don’t have a local store.

Here are some of my favorite ways to save:

1.  Use Store Coupons

Be sure to take advantage of Jo-Ann’s coupons.  You can score these coupons on your phone, online or sign up for their mailing list. Always be on the lookout for daily deal offers.

  • View coupons that are available and print them here

  • Use coupons when shopping online

  • Click on the mailing list icon to join their mailing list. I receive coupons approximately twice a month!

If the store coupon bar codes are the same, you cannot use more than one coupon.

If the store coupon bar codes differ, you can stack them.

**Always check your receipt for survey offers, they often offer coupons in return

2.  Jo-Ann Mobile Alerts & Apps

Coupons & Offers by Text: Text BEADS to 56266 (JOANN) to receive a money-saving coupon now & more great future offers by text.  (Text STOP to 56266 to opt out.)

Tablet App: Download app in the Apple store or Google Play

Smartphone App: Receive & load digital coupons to your coupon wallet. Research products and reviews. Find a store near you.

3.  Join Jo-Ann Mailing List

This way, you’ll be “in the know” when sales are happening in-store and online and you will also receive coupons that can be used for shopping at your local store or for discounts on the website as well.  Sign up for the snail mail list at checkout or sign up at Joann.com for their emails. You can also elect to receive text offers (you can opt out at any time).  The most frequent coupon is 40% off one full-priced item; also common is 10-20% off your total sale.  Sign up here.

4.  Use Competitor Coupon

Jo-Ann Fabric's accepts competitor coupons from Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and Beverley’s. You’ll want to check with your local store first to check their store policy. The coupon has to be for the same identical item that both stores carry.  You can use one competitor’s coupon per day.

5.  Join a Discount Program

Teacher Rewards

Jo-Ann’s Teacher Rewards program (also available to home school educators) offers 15% off all purchases (excluding remnants, patterns, and gift cards).  Sign up here.

Military service members and eligible family members. 10% OFF every purchase (exclusions apply.)  You must present proof of your military service, past or present, or Military Dependent ID upon checkout to receive your discount. Includes regular, sale-priced & clearance items

6.  Follow Jo-Ann’s on Social Media

Jo-Ann’s announces large sales such as the Coupon Commotion and Daffodil Days and releases coupons on social media. Coupon Commotion and Daffodil Days are events that features extra coupons and many times, you can stack coupons.

7.  Head to the Back of the Store

When shopping for fabric, head to the red tag section (usually near the back of the store) for marked down fabric by the yard. Though red tag prices are hit-or-miss, several times a year (usually over a holiday weekend) they will offer 50% off all red tag fabrics.

8. Shop the Remnants Bin

If you just need a small amount of fabric (usually one yard or less,) look for the remnants bin near the fabric cutting counter.  All remnants are marked down 50% from current price (includes discounts) at the register.  You never know when you will find a treasure that will work perfectly for a project you have in mind.

9. Price Match

Jo-Ann’s will price match on identical, in-stock merchandise if you bring a printed copy of the lower advertised price dated within the past 7 days (excludes special buys, door busters, seasonal items, and liquidations).

10. Know When to Stock Up

Jo-Ann’s usually has something on sale or huge discount at any given time. It always seems Jo-Ann’s has at least 25% of the store on sale at any one time. If I make a trip for a particular purpose, I browse the aisles to find sale and stock up on buttons, zippers, elastic, yarn, needles, and thread that I know I will need and use over the next few months.  My favorite time to buy notions is when there is a 60% off coupon for the entire purchase from the notions wall. The sales usually go seasonally, so make sure you stock up on enough until it circles back again.

 11.  Shop Right after a Holiday

Like with most stores, Jo-Ann’s runs after holiday sales to clear the shelves of Christmas, Easter, St Patrick’s Day, and other holiday’s items. You can get things that can be used next year or that is loosely related to the holiday and can be used anytime such as some colored gift-bags, ribbons, tablecloths and decorations.

12.  Hit up Black Friday at Jo-Ann’s

Jo-Ann’s typically runs huge sales on that weekend. It’s a great time to stock up.
