A Perfect Family Night—a Halloween Movie and Pumpkin Pie Popcorn

Don’t you just love Fall?  It is my favorite time of year and October is my favorite month—the beautiful leaves, the cooler temperatures and the smell of pumpkin spice in the air—I just love it all!  And my favorite holiday is this month—Halloween!

I decided to start celebrating Halloween with a special treat for Family Night this past weekend.   We watched my favorite Halloween move—Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker—and made some Pumpkin Pie Popcorn.

If you’ve never seen Hocus Pocus you should.  It’s a Disney film about three outlandishly wild witches—played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy.  The three sisters are accidentally conjured up from 17th-century Salem.   They turn Halloween night into comic chaos trying to outwit three kids and a talking cat and reclaim their youth.  I love Bette Midler as a beaver-toothed, child-chasing 17th century witch.  Kathy Nijimy, with her Dairy Queen-style hair and lopsided grin, is a hoot. And Sarah Jessica Parker, the curvaceous, third sister, does Sex In the City...Salem-style! (Strictly PG of course!)

Here is my favorite scene in the movie.

The perfect accompaniment to this zany movie fun is Pumpkin Pie Popcorn.  It’s easy to make and the grandchildren love it.  So it’s a win-win!

Pumpkin Pie Popcorn

Serves: 8

Ingredients

1 bag Kettle Corn Microwave Popcorn
¼ cup sugar
1 tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
Butter flavored nonstick cooking spray
1 cup raisins
1 (5- oz.) package pecans

Instructions

1. Prepare popcorn according to package directions.  Place in a large bowl and remove any unpopped kernels.

2. Stir together sugar and pumpkin pie spice in a small bowl.  Spray popcorn liberally with cooking spray, tossing evenly to coat.

3. Add raisins and pecans.  Sprinkle with sugar mixture and toss until popcorn is well coated with mixture.

The movie is so much fun.  And the popcorn is great for Halloween or even for Thanksgiving.
