Tomorrow Is Museum Day and We're Going to the Zoo!

What's not to love about a face like that?

I am so excited (probably more than the grandkids!)  Tomorrow is Museum Day in Sacramento and we are off to the zoo.  (4 generations of us.)

I have always loved zoos and giraffes are my favorite.  The Sacramento Zoo offers an opportunity to get eyeball-to-eyeball with these magnificent creatures.  It's called Tall Wonders.  You can even feed them (for the price of giraffe food.)   If the truth be told I don't have to wait for Museum Day for discounted admission to the zoo.  I can go anytime for free.   I am a member of the Sacramento Zoological Society.  But for extended family and friends it helps that the zoo is on half price for Museum Day.

There are wonderful benefits to being a member of the zoo.  The most obvious benefit is supporting the zoo and receiving free admission for a full year.   But in addition to that, membership it includes discounted admission to over 150 AZA accredited zoos and aquariums across the United States and Canada.  I use this more often than I go to the Sacramento Zoo.  For example, in Albuquerque we went to the Rio Grande Zoo in the Albuquerque Bio Park.  My son had a membership at this zoo for his family and I used my membership from the Sacramento Zoo for my daughter and two grandchildren.  The family outing cost a fraction of what it would have.  On Sunday (yes, Super Bowl 50 Sunday) my daughter-in-law, Jody, and two of my teenage grandchildren are off to San Francisco to visit Pier 39 and tour the Aquarium of the Bay.  I will only be paying 50% of the cost of admission at the aquarium because it is on my list of zoos and aquariums on the reciprocal agreement.  This makes our outing more affordable (the money I saved will probably go to feed hungry teenagers,)

To learn more on how to support your local zoo or aquarium and discover if they offer this membership benefit check out the membership page on their website or go to the website of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

I'll be sure to share my fun at both the Sacramento Zoo and the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco's Pier 39 in future posts.
