Traveling with baby means packing a lot of stuff. When you get to your destination you don’t always have everything you need–like a high chair. And it isn’t always practical to pack it with you. What you need is a fabric sling that converts a regular chair into a baby feeding station. It needs to roll up to fit into a diaper bag, be machine washable, and have a free pattern or instructions available on the internet.
I needed a shower gift for a baby boy and I thought a travel high chair would be practical and unique. My go-to place when looking for something like this is Pinterest. I searched “free travel high chair patterns.” My search turned up several and after reading through several posts I found one I really liked.
The fabric high chair is very portable. You can use it with any chair that has slats in the back. It folds down to a size that is easily slipped into a diaper bag.
Since this was made as a shower gift I didn’t have a baby model. I used my 20 month old grandson, Carter, as a stand-in. (I bribed him with Cheetos.)
I used a tutorial called This Mama’s Fab Travel Chair from the blog,This Mama Makes Stuff.
I really like her instructions. They are very clear and easy to follow.
Two things I used polyester batting. For baby items I like to use polyester batting rather than 100% cotton. It dries so much faster. Also I used a 2 inch wide Sew In Velcro.
While this travel high chair is amazing it has one drawback. It needs to be used on chairs with slats. It will not work on one without them. And always supervise your baby while using the chair.
