With summer just around the corner, this is your chance to head out on a road trip and taste the excitement and thrills that lay ahead. If you’re not planning to embark on your trip on a train or an airplane, it would be best to think of ways to maintain your car in a neat condition – after all, you will spend plenty of time in this environment and it would be a good idea to keep it as clean as possible. Can’t think of anything on your own? Here are a few handy tips on how to maintain your vehicle in a pristine condition during your long road trip.
Don’t Turn your Car into a Lunch Room
Eating in the car is almost always a bad idea, even more so if you are planning to embark on a road trip with teenagers or younger children. If you skip this tip, you will find almost all the mess at the trip’s end stems from food consumption in the vehicle. There will be ketchup and mayo stains all over the upholstery and crumbs between the creases of the seats. If possible, stop by a road diner to have a nice, warm lunch there. If not, restrict yourself to processed food only. Then again, trail mixes pose as a suitable option as well as they combine different tastes and will give you a nice energy boost.
Keep a Bag for the Garbage Close at Hand
Before you head on the road, make sure you take several plastic bags with you to keep your garbage in. You can place empty packages and bottles in the bags instead of tossing them on the floor and seats or even worse – tossing them out of the window. When you stop by at a gas station or drive through a town, make sure you dispose of the full bags and throw them in the nearest garbage container. Whatever you do, Kings Cross Cleaners advises you to stop keeping the full bags in your car during the entire trip. Uh, imagine how your car would smell afterward!
Give Your Car a Quick Tidy-Up Every Once in a While
The more often you do it, the better. A quick tidy-up once in a while will spare you lots of time and efforts in the future. For example, you can do it each time you stop at a gas station to fill up your tank. This will give you a very good opportunity to throw away those garbage bags, we talked about earlier. Also, at many gas stations, they allow you to use their pressure washers to rinse dust and dirt from your vehicle.
Keep Your Car Fresh with a Car Air Freshener
Of course, you can always keep the windows open if the draft does not disturb you. However, it would be an excellent idea to hang a store-bought air freshener on the rearview mirror just to keep your vehicle smelling lovely and fresh. If you are a smoker this next tip will not appeal to you, but hey – it’s probably better than having to wash your upholstery when you return from your road trip. Don’t smoke in the car! The upholstery will not only soak up the nasty smell but there’s a good chance, it will turn a yellowish if it’s a pale color
Stack Up on Wet Wipes
Keeping wet wipes close at hand is an excellent idea, even more so when you are on a long road trip. If you have skipped on our first advice, you probably will find yourself in the position of having to deal with ketchup dribbling down the upholstery. The sooner you wipe it off, the better – it would be easier to clean when you get back home.
Maintaining your car clean and neat will surely render your experience on the road much more pleasant. It would be even better when you return home from your trip as you won’t have to deal with stains, soils, stale odors, and nasty spills. Being on the road can be quite exhausting sometimes. Spare yourself the efforts and energy when you return home by giving our tips the go-ahead!
