While a getaway is very desirable, sometimes due to work, budget, or other commitments it just isn’t in the cards. I need to find ways to satisfy my thirst for travel. A staycation is just the ticket. The term “staycation” was coined to describe the idea of vacationing at home, and while the word might not be just what you want to hear, the concept could be just the thing. Most cities have plenty of activities and hidden adventures you can discover just by exploring. Here are 5 examples of some of the best cities for a staycation option.
Orlando has to be number one on this list. It is the same park mecca-ranging from Disney World (all four parks) to Sea World to Universal Studios to Legoland. In addition to world-class theme parks and attractions, Orlando has a vibrant arts and cultural community. There’s never a shortage of museums, art viewings, and tours in Orlando. Arts and culture venues in Orlando are often free or discounted and have something for everyone to enjoy.
Orlando’s natural beauty and landscape make it a great place for soaking up the sun and enjoying the outdoors.
San Diego, California
With a beautiful year round climate, San Diego is a perfect destination for the outdoor oriented family. There is something truly for everyone in San Diego.
World famous San Diego Zoo is a tourist spot that cannot be overlooked. Balboa Park is not only an attraction for tourists but also for locals. With its handful of museums, gardens, trails, and architectural beauty, it is a perfect place to make a moment. Spend a day or night in Old Town, which post some of the best Mexican food San Diego has to offer. You can’t visit San Diego without having a beach day. All of the beaches are distinctly different and every one of them amazing in their own way.
These are some of the best cities for staycations but you can find great ideas for mini-vacations anywhere you live. Make an excursion to nearby places or a quick trip to the mall. Why take a 10 Hour Dr. or three hour plane ride when your best vacation is the staycation in your own backyard.
San Francisco, California
One of the best parts of living in the bay area is the abundance of destination worthy beaches, Hiking spots, and small towns just a short drive away. Take a mini trip to Occidental, Pescadero, or, if you’re feeling ambitious Placerville or Nevada city.
But San Francisco itself has a lot to offer. Skip the car best for the day and do a walking tour of the city. Explore familiar neighborhoods like you would a new neighborhood in the European city; decking to every shop stop at a café for a bite and spend an hour with people watching in a local park before making the trek to the next neighborhood.
There’s no need to wait for a visit from mainlanders to enjoy beachside tropical cocktails, delicious food, Hawaiian games and arts and crafts. One of the best things about living in Honolulu is the opportunity to enjoy the vast beauty, recreational and cultural activities of Hawaii, all within a very short distance from home.
Looking for a great day trip out of the city? Flight of the big island tour the small boutique farms, and orchards, watch the steps from roasting to grinding, and sample the new one answers I’ve been scrolling in different areas. Hawaii has its own specialty crop known for its smoothie flavors and bold finishes. Kona coffee beans are a rare commodity grown only in north and south Kona.
Visit the other tourist islands – Oahu, Maui and Kauai.
There’s SO much to do in the Atlanta area. For starters, Atlanta is the headquarters for Coca-Cola Company, CNN, TNT, and TBS. That’s not even mentioning the city has one of the most impressive zoos (Atlanta zoo) and aquariums (Georgia aquarium). It is also home to College Football Hall of Fame and to the birthplace of Martin Luther King Junior.
Atlanta is a city full of unique little neighborhoods. For example, midtown Atlanta (known as the “Heart of the Arts”), is bustling with art and energy. In this neighborhood you’ll find the Fox Theater, High Museum of Art, and the inventive world of the Center for Puppetry.
Traveling to far off lands is always high on my priority list, but a staycation is the perfect way to unwind for a few days and take time out to explore. Most cities have plenty of activities and hidden adventures you can discover just by exploring.
Discover some great little places to uncover right on your own doorstep (depending on where exactly your doorstep is.)
